Commitment to excellence, deep understanding of various disinfection needs and a customer-centric approach form the shared foundation of the newly established partnership of LindMed and LEDTailor. In this article we discuss the unique features of disinfection in veterinary clinics.
Kari Lindqvist, founder of LindMed, the new distributor of LED Tailor.
After years of careful consideration, Kari Lindqvist founded LindMed Oy in September 2024, aiming to become a leading provider of innovative veterinary solutions in Finland. But this certainly isn’t his first venture in the field. Kari has over 20 years of sales experience and a technology degree, giving him a deep understanding of the products he sells and their technological impact. His extensive background in veterinary medicine sales has allowed him to work closely with top professionals and understand their needs.
For Kari, the veterinary field is more than just a business. "The wellbeing of animals has always been close to my heart and is a way of life," he says.
Kari began his sales career after studying technology and sales in the early 2000s. While his professional focus was on selling electrical equipment, animals were a dear hobby of his in his free time. Then one day, Kari had a golden opportunity to combine his passion and career: in 2013 he started as an account manager and sales manager in animal medical equipment and a specialist in animal nutrition at Berner. Later, he transitioned to Steripolar, where he took on a managerial role responsible for the animal care ultrasound and operating room environments. Eventually, he was in charge of the SteripolarVet product group, as Steripolar began building its portfolio of medical technology for veterinary medicine.
"As I have worked with many professionals in the field, including leading experts, I have gained a deep understanding of the realities of veterinary medicine," says Kari.
Focus on Expert Services for Veterinary Clinics
Veterinary clinics require a wide range of services, and LindMed offers comprehensive technical solutions, from diagnostics and imaging to disinfection. Integrating Spectral Blue technology ensures safe and effective disinfection, crucial for preventing health issues and disease spread.
"The Spectral Blue product range can be tailored to meet the specific needs of each clinic," says Kari. The plug-and-play solutions, such as Spectral Blue BERLIN and SALO, are popular for their ease of use. For clinics needing integrated solutions, devices can be installed on ceilings or walls. LED Tailor experts provide measurements and even computer-aided 3D disinfection plans when necessary.
Kari is proud to include Spectral Blue products in his selection. "It's a unique solution that is safe, easy to use, and supports Finnish know-how," he says.
LindMed's product range is showcased on their website, and Kari actively participates in fairs and seminars to demonstrate the Spectral Blue solutions. "We start by understanding the client's needs and premises to find the best solution," he explains.
It’s also possible to request a demonstration at a veterinary clinic, for example, to see how the blue light works in action. This includes tests on the effectiveness of disinfection, which can be conducted by either LED Tailor or the clinic staff.
Merging External and Internal Expertise for Veterinary Solutions
Kirsi Saukkonen, Senior Specialist in Infectious Diseases at LED Tailor.
Through their partnership with LED Tailor, LindMed can tailor disinfection solutions to even the most specific requirements, with Spectral Blue experts working closely to determine the best setup.
There is also someone at LED Tailor who is knowledgeable about veterinary medicine. The company’s Senior Specialist in Infectious Diseases, Kirsi Saukkonen, has worked with Kari Lindqvist for years, and their cooperation continues in their new roles.
"Kirsi understands the realities of veterinary clinics, which is a big plus," says Kari.
Kirsi earned her PhD in Clinical Microbiology at the university of Helsinki over 30 years ago. Since then, she has focused her career on surface hygiene and disinfection, aiming to maintain effective disinfection practices. She has gained experience in both human and animal environments, understanding the need for surface disinfection in these settings.
“The microbes are different in these two environments, but as far as disinfection is concerned, they behave in the same way,” says Kirsi.
The World of Veterinary Care
Kirsi finds it crucial that throughout her career, she has had the opportunity to visit actual sites and discuss with clients about their disinfection needs.
“If you only sit behind your desk, you won’t learn about real-life problems. I've had the chance to visit hospitals, food plants, small clinics, animal hospitals, and so on. This way, I've effectively learned to speak the language of the clients,” Kirsi says.
Kirsi has visited all sizes of places, from single-person clinics to large hospital units, and learned that human medical care and animal medical care don’t quite work the same way. For example, the standards that need to be followed are different. Additionally, organic dirt, which needs to be cleaned away before disinfection begins, varies significantly.
“You might need to create a clinical environment in horse stables, for instance. All the dirt that accumulates there must be addressed before the disinfection can start,” Kirsi says.
Diseases spread among animals just as they do among people, and infections can also spread from animals to humans, as we've seen with COVID. According to some estimates, zoonoses—diseases of animal origin—might even become the leading cause of death in humans in the future. It is essential to keep environments safe for both humans and animals.

Reasons to Use Blue Light Disinfection in Animal Environments
Kirsi sees many benefits in using blue light disinfection in veterinary clinics and other animal care settings. Here are some of them:
1. Non-Hazardous: Strong disinfectants pose health risks to both people and animals. Blue light is scentless, tasteless, non-toxic, and 100% safe for humans and animals.
2. Automatic and Maintenance-Free: The disinfection system operates automatically and is maintenance-free for up to 10 years. A simple press of a button or a timer does the work, freeing staff to focus on other tasks.
3. Sensitivity to Odors: Animals are sensitive to strong odors and may lick surfaces, making other disinfection methods challenging.
4. Ozone-Free: Blue light is ozone-free, unlike UVC light. Animals are very sensitive to ozone, making this a significant advantage.
5. Chemical-free and odor-free: You can use regular cleaning detergent for organic dirt instead of chemical disinfectants because the disinfection process doesn't rely on harsh chemicals.
6. Easy to Use: Recovery rooms can be challenging to disinfect due to soiling and difficult-to-clean cages. With blue light, you simply switch on the disinfecting light or set a timer, making disinfection worry-free!
